Why do minimum order quantities vary for custom hotel supplies?

A standard white towel can be made in the hundreds, but change the color or weave in a logo and the MOQ goes up. The reason is the fixed setup cost of customization.

Short answer

  • MOQ depends on whether dedicated dyeing, pattern making, machine setup or molds are needed; these fixed costs have to be spread over the quantity.
  • Standard specifications (standard sizes, white, generic packaging) have the lowest MOQ.
  • Each extra customization in color, logo or packaging usually raises the MOQ a little.
  • When quantities are too small, switch to a method with a lower MOQ, or start with standard items and customize when restocking.

01Where MOQs come from

Every custom item carries a fixed setup cost for the factory: dyeing a vat of yarn, adjusting a machine, making a printing plate, opening a mold. That cost is the same whether you make 100 pieces or 1,000. With too few pieces, the cost per piece is high, so factories set a minimum quantity.

These are typical industry ranges to give a sense of scale; they are not our MOQ for every product. Exact figures are stated in the quote by product and customization.

04What if your quantity is too small

  • Use standard specifications: standard sizes, white and generic packaging have the lowest MOQ.
  • Combine styles: use the same fabric and color across room types, so the combined quantity reaches the MOQ more easily.
  • Change the method: embroidery instead of jacquard, stickers instead of color boxes.
  • In phases: open with standard items first, and switch to custom items when restock quantities grow.

05How to word your inquiry

Besides the first order quantity, also give a rough annual restock quantity. When suppliers know the total volume, they can propose a better solution.

How to word your inquiry

Bath towels 70 × 140 cm, 600 GSM, white, one-color embroidered logo in the lower left corner (8 cm wide). First order 300 pieces, expected annual restock 600. Please state the MOQ for this specification; if we can't reach it, please suggest ways to lower the MOQ.
